It also works with other types of files that you sometimes want to download but the site doesn't give you a way to do that. Anything that uses a bog standard HTTP GET request from your browser to get a whole file from a server, kind of.Firefox with: Open the page, open HTTPFox (from Tools Web developer menu or Shift-Ctrl-F2) and press the green start button on the left on its panel, click play on the video and it's obvious which GET request it is as you can see the Sent data field going up and up in MB as it downloads and it's probably the only new request showing anyway.
