Meanwhile, Ameer Umri pleads with his erstwhile friend Sarvaar to save his son. Sarvaar agrees to get his daughter married to Khais if it is proved that he is not mad. Theatrical release poster of Laila Majnu, Tamil versionLaila Majnu was first made as a silent film in 1922 by J. Madan and again in 1927 by Manilal Joshi. Noted filmmaker Kanjibhai Rathod made it in Hindi in 1931 after the films became talkies. Madan remade it in Hindi in 1931.

In 1936, it was produced by East India Pictures in Persian. In 1940, Dharmaveer Singh made the same story in Punjabi, and in 1941, Sarnad Pictures made a version in Pushtu language. In 1945 it was made in Hindi featuring Swaran Lata as Leila and Nazir Ahmed as Majnu. It was a box office hit. This verson made by Bhanumathi was dubbed into Tamil and released simultaneously with the Telugu version.

Nagoor made another in 1950 under the banner Balaji Pictures and shot at Newtone studios with and in the lead roles. The story was again made in 1953, 1976 (in Hindi and Bengali), and later in 1982. Production Laila Majnu, an ancient epic of love, is an integral part of classic Sufi literature. Hashmet Shah has told it, so has Amir Khusro. Nizami Ganjavi's 12th century version in scintillating verse filled with allegorical flourishes has been translated into numerous languages. Mian Mohammad Bakhsh's interpretation of the epic is held as an acclaimed treatise in Pakistan till this day.

The tragic tale of Majnoon and Laila is said to have its foundations in true events that occurred in the 7th century. With his first film, Rathnamala, turning a box office hit, studio owner and director Ramakrishna was on the lookout for a suitable subject for Bharani's next venture. Fascinated by the first Hindi talkie version of Laila Majnu (1945), which he had seen in Bombay, he made the choice.

His production chief D. Narayana agreed with him. A screening of the Hindi version was arranged for his actress-wife Bhanumathi and Akkineni Nageswara Rao, whom he had thought of for the protagonist's role. Samudrala Raghavacharya was assigned the job of writing the script and the dialogue. The sandstorm scene especially is worth mentioning. Instead of veteran cameraman Jiten Banerjee, who cranked for Rathnamala, Ramakrishna took B.

Ranga as the cameraman without even knowing how efficient his work was. Ranga who bagged this assignment thanks to his brother Garudachari, a close friend of Ramakrishna, proved his worth and it was the turning point in his future life and career. Besides excellent photography, sound designing (by V. Srinivasa Raghavan under whom later day's popular director K. Viswanath worked as an assistant), the period sets created by art directors Goadgoankar and K.

Nageswara Rao.Critical reception An article published in THE HINDU wrote about this movie 'While the opulent palace, garden and other sets were put up in the floor, the desert set with a pond, palm trees (to resemble date trees found in deserts) and sand dunes were created in the open space between the studio and the recording theatre and the scenes were shot there during the nights for the right effect. The result of this entire effort was reflected in audience's appreciation of the movie.'

This movie presents beauty of love, it shows how the girl (heroine sai pallavi) from village falls in love with Hero (Varun), later how assumptions and confusion creates differences and cope them back, All movie credit goes to Heroine, her hyperactive acting, Telangana language & tremendous dance performance in her First song made really moved to Audience in the theater. I really Appreciate Bhanu (Sai Pallavi) for her Performance in this movies, thanks for shekar Kammul for giving us such good movie. Bhanumathi,Hybrid Pilla, Okkate piece.Sai Pallavi wow I loved her character lot n lot.She is excellent performer, after Malar character Sai Pallavi got lifetime Memorable character Bhanumathi. Director Shekar Kammula after longtime came up with Fidaa story.Aanand,Happy days,Godavari great pictures of him and now this one Top of the list.

He chose Sai Pallavi for Bhanumathi character that is biggest Asset to the film. We felt so many scenes relative to real life.

Somebody said how much Savitri did her performance in Missamma and in Same way Sai Pallavi has given that much output.A beautiful story,Hats off to Everyone. Hero Varun in Kanche movie he proved himself the best actor and here he played NRI lover boy.great work has done. Varun best love story movie in his career.

Shekar sir you select new faces really it's workout great. Father, sister, actress aunt and hero brother everyone they lived in characters.Music, songs beauty melody tracks Vachinde Pilla song highlight. Finally Sai Pallavi I'm big fan with Premam,Kali movies.

Now worship her acting dancing everything.I watched 3 days continuously this movie only for Bhanumathi character and her Telangana dialogues. She told dubbing her own that too a malayali girl a telangana telugu accent wow we love more n more, Fidaa of her dialogues. My perception and opinion 2017 best actress would be Sai Pallavi in any film award. We keep smile on face while watching movie with bhanumathi character. Thanks to Shekar sir and Sai Pallavi. Sai pallavi has given life to bhanumathi character this is the reason I gave 10 rating.

Still I feel new want to watch more 2-3 times bcos of Bhanumathi,Hybrid Pilla,Okkate piece really, one n only Sai Pallavi. At the core this is just a boy meets girl, misunderstanding, patch-up love story. No surprises here. The whole movie revolves around Bhanu.

Bhanumathi Ramakrishna

Bhanu is the hero of the script and Varun is a supporting character. Technically, there is no villain but in a strict sense of the script, Bhanu's will/ambition is the villain. The lead actress portrayed the character with conviction. The lead actor got the job done but his characterization is very weak.

In fact, all the characters are very two dimensional and predictable, like any other Indian movie. The characters keep contradicting themselves time and again and they act out of character in every other scene. Then there is editing. Badly done editing job makes this movie a drag fest. The scenes are long for no reason and some scenes are too short to take anything away from it. If not for the lead actress, this movie would've been a disaster. She made this movie somewhat bearable.

Fida Yes, I watch Telugu films too Let's start with the bad stuff first. Cinematography was not good. There were some shots that were actually out of focus, some that had obstacles blocking the actors and some which were just not framed well. Same goes for the editing, it was not good. They wasted so much time on Trivial things. There was one particular shot in a hospital which was four minutes long when it only needed to be thirty seconds. And one important scene which needed to be longer but was cut much too early without the information being registered completely.

The hero and the sister of the heroine were baaaaad. It was strained and it was showing. Lastly, the ending was rushed and all the time that they probably should've saved in the movie should've been used for it instead. It was just very abrupt.

More of a conclusion would've been great. Now for the good things. The story he told was told pretty well. The pacing was great, save for the ending. The direction was good enough and the screenplay was pretty good too.

The story had no gaping plot holes and the characters were well written. Speaking of which, the heroine is definitely the highlight of the entire film. She was effortless in her acting and a natural. She was so lively and her screen presence was better than probably almost all of the heroines working here right now. She brought the character to life and did it without a single setback.

I had no problem in believing anything she said. She was wonderful. I would really love to see more of her. Special mention to her father in the movie who also gave a pretty good performance. So, a pretty good Telugu film with a pretty good story and one redeeming character/actor for whom you can actually watch the entire film. I must start with saying that I am a big fan of Telugu romantic films. I sat to watch this movie with the expectation of getting some good movie content after reading the wonderful reviews.

But seems like I was wrong. The movie is based on a highly predictable and very mediocre love story.

Nothing's fresh. Few shots here and there are fine, but major part of the cinematography and editing are so hastily done, you can feel it. The senseless transitions in between shots (the ones in America) were so badly knit. The first half of the movie was still fine. But the second half was a total snooze fest. The first half was still something a bit fresh, but the second half was just completely predictable and felt like it was being pulled unnecessarily. The movie is truly all about the charm of Sai Pallavi.

And I must say, she was the only subject that kept me from not exiting the movie. Damn, she is cute! But the story and direction could've been a lot better.

Fidaa is a film that rides on the strength of the character of female lead alone. Sai Pallavi delivers as the village belle from Telangana with such a grace and ease that puts most of the leading actresses in Telugu industry to shame. She gets everything right, right from the accent to the emotions and subtleties in expressions bringing freshness to her portrayal. Shekhar Kammula needs to be lauded for great writing and equally good direction except for some stagnant moments in the second half of the film. Varun Tej's bad acting did not bring down the film much but his portrayal of an NRI guy felt like characters from Mogali Rekulu serial unnecessarily speaking in English now and then.

He is completely overshadowed by Sai Pallavi, not that we are complaining. One of the best movies in Telugu in recent times, right there alongside Pellichupulu. Just got to watch this movie lately and I am super impressed by Sai Pallavi's acting and her ability to dub her own dialogs in Telangana Telugu!

I really enjoyed every single one of her dialogs in the movie written by Sekhar Kammula. Yep, this movie is a hit because of Sai Pallavi and the rural Telangana settings portrayed by awesome cinematography and those 2 songs (Vacchinde & Hey Pillagada) carried through and through by her great dance moves and subtle expressions. Acer aspire one d257 red.

She is the heart and soul of this film. Now for the story, Sekhar did an excellent job narrating the story in the first half and fell short at the intermission and the second half. He did the difficult job of portraying the love story in great detail which is where most directors typically struggle. I wish he had spent a week more thinking about how he could have created and bridged the rift between the protagonists. A missed opportunity for film to be excellent from where I rated as good today. The scenes and dialogs set in the US could have been smoother - they look broken, hurried and induced with nonsense (Suzy, Ali,dress, etc.) in between.

Here is where Sekhar lost the plot. I would have liked more dialogs from Sai Pallavi (Bhanu) here. She was unusually quiet for most of the second half. Raju (Varun's brother) could have had better dialogs. Varun Tej did a good job portraying his character.

Bhanu talks about her love to her friend, her sister, types and erases that on phone, but never overtly expresses her love to Varun throughout the film! If it were not for the super guesswork of Varun (Bhanu never gave any indications post the village life) and convincing by her dad, Bhanu would have ended up marrying that other dude - per the plot. I find it kind of odd that Sekhar missed that for the strong character he is portraying for Bhanu who could have expressed herself to Varun. Again, needs more dialogs for Sai Pallavi! After all the talk of 'half-and-half' (sagam-sagam), the fact that Bhanu is fine with the second option (Varum settling in the village) in the end seems a bit compromised and sudden without setting up relevant scenes and reasons. All in all, a good refreshing movie. Go watch for Sai Pallavi, her Telangana accent, her dance moves, cinematography, and the monsoon rains in the village!

This movie is about the talented Sai Pallavi, she carries the whole movie on her shoulder with able support from the other cast. The first half of the movie was excellent, full-on entertainment 10/10. The slang used by Pallavi was perfect, she totally looked the part of a village girl from Telangana. The atmosphere, locals were all picture perfect, beautiful place wherever the movie was shot. I would like to rate 10/10 for the few songs that were there in the movie, they actually carried the story forward and were a part of the story, rather than a mere compulsory distraction as with other movies. Sai Pallavi is an excellent dancer, she will keep your attention on the screen throughout the dance sequence.

Everything to praise about the first half, but that cannot be said about the second half. The second half of the movie was like the typical Indian movies where the actress is there just for show and majority of the footage is given to the actor. This movie suffers heavily during the second half, it lacks story, the director seems confused as to how to bring the movie to climax. An average moviegoer could have seen the climax coming hours before the movie ended.

Varun Tej does know how to act, he does a good job at it, but his dance skills are yet to be seen. I would rate the second half as 4/10. Overall 7/10.

Hats off Sai Pallavi, Varun Tej and rest of the cast for giving us a blockbuster First Half and a rather typical second. Well the doctor is sai pallavi who is a real life doctor. I fell in love with the character. My brother had dragged me to watch a movie called paisa vasool and fortunately we did not get tickets for that so we watched this movie. The girl is not big on looks so to say but her acting skills are out of the world.

One might remember kareena from Jab we met. We need actresses and heroines and she is one. Coming to movie the second half is a drag fest and you could not have sat through the movie if not for the lead actors who both did a great job.

This is my first Varun film and i was really impressed. I will probably watch his other movies too. I have to watch premam too. Thanks director for this film. Loved it totally. I am giving it one star less because of the bad editing and a very hurried ending.
